The Paradox of Our Time

The Paradox of Our Time

by Marin Angel Lazarov

The paradox of our time is that we have tall buildings but low tolerance, wide motorways but narrow views.

We spend more but have less, buy more but enjoy less.

We have bigger houses but smaller families, better amenities but less time.

We have better education but less wisdom, better knowledge but poorer judgement, more experts but more problems, better medicine but poorer health.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too irresponsibly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get angry too easily, go to bed too late, wake up too tired, read too little, watch too much television and pray too rarely.

We have increased our demands, but reduced our values.

We talk too much, love too little, and hate too often.

We know how to survive, but we don't know how to live.

We add years to human life, but we don't add life to years.

We have reached the moon and returned, but we struggle to cross the street and get to know our new neighbour.

We conquer outer space, but not inner space.

We do bigger things, but not better things.

We purify the air, but pollute the soul.

We have conquered the atom, but not our prejudices.

We write more, but know less.

We plan more, but achieve less.

We have learned to rush, but not to wait.

We create new computers that store more information and spew out more copies than before, but we communicate less and less with each other.

This is a time of fast food and poor digestion, of 'big' people and 'small' souls, of quick profits and difficult relationships.

A time of rising family incomes and rising divorce rates, beautiful homes and broken homes.

A time of short distances, disposable nappies, disposable morals, one-night stands; excess weight and pills that do everything: excite us, calm us, kill us...

A time of crowded shop windows and empty warehouses.

A time when technology allows this letter to reach you, while also allowing you to share it or simply press 'Delete'.

Remember...

Remember, spend more time with those you love, because they won't be with you forever.

Remember, say kind words to those who look up at you with admiration, because this little creature will soon grow up and will no longer be by your side.

Remember to hold your loved ones close, because that is the only treasure you can give from your heart, and it doesn't cost a penny.

Remember to say 'I love you' to your loved ones, but first, really feel it.

Kisses and hugs can fix any trouble when they come from the heart.

Remember and hold hands and cherish the moments when you are together, because one day that person will no longer be with you.

Find time for love, find time for communication, and find time to share everything you have to say.

Because life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away!
